BIPO’s 20th-year concert in honour of its Honorary Conductor Gürer Aykal will be a passage of masterpieces. On the night where Dreams of a River by contemporary Turkish composer Mahir Cetiz, who is closely followed and performed by both BIPO and the Borusan Quartet, and The Planets by Gustav Holst will be performed soloist Denis Kozhukhin will appear on stage performing one of the golden pieces of the piano repertoire the Piano Concerto by Edvard Grieg. Described by music critics as “having a special place among the crowded world of piano virtuosos”, Kozhukhin performed last season in Chicago, San Francisco, Toronto, Stockholm, Vienna and many other important centres of music, with prominent conductors including Barenboim, Weilerstein, Petrenko, Krivine and Orozco-Estrada.

ACE of M.I.C.E. For the event to be hosted by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources in 2019, invitations to the opening ceremony have already been submitted to the President of the Republic of Turkey, ministers from other countries, Turkish Ministers of Treasury and Finance, National Education, Industry and Technology, Environment and Urbanization, Agriculture and Forestry, dignitaries of foreign missions in Turkey, and senior national officials.

The opening concert marks the Turkey debut of Seong-Jin Cho, winner of the 17th International Fryderyk Chopin Piano Competition. Since 2015, he has risen fast in the international arena, playing with prestigious orchestras around the world and releasing albums to rave reviews. The pianist reunites with conductor Aziz Shokhakimov tonight, after their performance with the RAI National Symphony Orchestra last year.

In this concert directed by BIPO’s honorary conductor Gürer Aykal, BIPO will perform a selection of Edward Elgar’s most-loved works for music lovers. In this concert BIPO will accompany cellist Harriet Krijgh who was chosen as “Rising Star” of the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) in 2015-2016 concert season. The young Dutch artist Krijgh is one of today’s most exciting and promising cellists.
