UKTAŞ (International Congress Centre Management Inc.) has completed its 10th year as the management company of Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar International Congress and Exhibition Centre, Sakıp Sabancı Kandilli Education and Culture Center Adile Sultan Palace and also as the investor and management company for the adjacent Rumeli Fair and Exhibition Centre in Istanbul. UKTAŞ was established by public and private sector cooperation in order to provide work and services in compliance with contemporary principles, scientific and technical data and to realize all sorts of commercial, economical and technical activities required for such work and services.

UKTAŞ has 120 partners comprising of leading companies and names in the tourism sector as well as the Republic of Turkey Culture and Tourism Ministry, the Tourism and Travel Agencies Foundation (TURSAV) and Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TURSAB).

The company was established in 1993 and set out with the ongoing mission of developing congress tourism, bringing about the creation of new congress centres for the sector, and providing successful hospitality services in Turkey. This mission was, and is, to be carried out by using the latest in technology and setting new standards in service quality both locally and internationally.

Since its establishment UKTAŞ, has set out to ensure that is has the infrastructure and the strength to meet the requirements of its customers while at the same time responding to the changing needs of this fast developing sector by expanding its range of services and maintaining its partnerships with local and foreign investors. Within its scope of activity UKTAŞ forms a management model comprising of complex, flexible physical and organic structures which can provide an event venue with accommodation, a congress centre, a shopping centre, a concert hall separately or together.

Since the Istanbul Lütfi Kırdar International Congress and Exhibition Centre opened in 1996 to host the Habitat Congress UKTAŞ has proved its excellence in congress centre management and attracted many more international congresses to Turkey. This in turn has contributed greatly to Turkey’s world-wide role in congress-incentive tourism and as well as significantly increasing the country’s turnover from tourism (by approximately 20%). UKTAŞ’s growth was also stimulated in 1999 by its investment in the adjacent Rumeli Fair and Exhibition Centre. This provided an additional fair venue that could be used in conjunction with the Congress Centre. On this site UKTAŞ now has a combined capacity 7000 congress delegates and accounts for 60 % of the people coming to Istanbul for congresses.

In 1999, UKTAŞ became the investor and operator of Rumeli Trade Fair and Exhibition Centre, the first example of “Exhibition Space Management Supporting Convention Centres” in Turkey. With a capacity of simultaneously accommodating 7000 congress participants, the İstanbul Lütfi Kırdar International Convention and Exhibition Centre, generally hosts 60% of all participants at the Istanbul destination.

In 2006, UKTAŞ, combining valuable support from The Ministry of National Education, Governorship of Istanbul, Late Mr. Sakıp Sabancı, Sabancı Foundation and KANKEV (Kandilli High School for Girls, Foundation for Education and Culture) carried out the restoration of Adile Sultan Palace, and then took over as the Palace’s operator, thus further expanding the company’s range of services.

UKTAŞ will continue with its effort to make the greatest contribution possible to the tourism sector and the economy of the country.
